“There is a human right to food but it’s hardly implemented anywhere... A mere three percent reduction in meat consumption in the industrial nations would mean one billion less people starving. To just produce the food needed to feed a cat in the US requires as much acreage as that needed to feed a person in Costa Rica.”
Jakob von Uexküll, founder of the Alternative Nobel Prize, in an interview published by the German Schrot und Korn health food magazine, July 2008, translated by FoodForAll.net

This website is under construction.

For now, you can download here a moving and powerful
reminder of  the conditions under which millions
of our sisters and brothers live (and die) on our planet.

(To download with
Internet explorer: right click above: save target as, and with Netscape : right click above: save link as or alternatively left click and save or left click and follow the instructions respectively.)

Contrasting in this manner how they live with our own outwardly incomparably more comfortable circumstances may help putting personally felt suffering, no matter how hard or even unbearable it may appear, into a greater perspective (and thus alleviate it), or remind those who complain about ultimately specious causes of discontent, to be grateful for what they do have. It may also stimulate us further
into working towards creating a more loving & helpful world.

And here is a great constructive proposition.

Johnny Appleseed lives again! Three of them, in fact. Three guys in LA hit upon a neat idea. They made a map of all the places in the city where fruit trees were growing, on private property, but had branches hanging over on public property.

With cities all across America, and indeed, all over the world, spending money on landscaping using decorative, but [in nutritional terms] useless, trees, shrubs and flowers, why not decorate with more useful foliage? These guys are calling on all cities and towns everywhere to decorate with fruit trees and other edibles.

The idea is simple, but great. People are hungry all over the world. By decorating with trees and plants that bear food, some of this hunger could be relieved by allowing people to pick and eat free fruit, nuts, and whatever.

Get some info here, and start a movement in your town. You may even win an award or official recognition for your efforts. It happened to my brother when he started a similar community betterment project. It could happen to you too, but if not, you'll still be a hero for making the world a better place!
